Crysis technical question/glitch

The game loads in windowed mode, which is ok I think I might have done it in the past somehow, but happens all the time even after I check for fullscreen.
This is not the major issue. The problem is that when I run the game in fullscreen (and for some reason it doesn't have the option for 1920x1200) the background objects, trees, mountains, etc, flicker like crazy. When I run the game in windowed mode, all is fine.
Suggestions?

Re: Crysis technical question/glitch

I used to have the same issue for a while. But i don't know what actually fixed this issue.

Out of curiosity do you have an odd issue wth the curser also while trying to select a load page/Options at all on the main screen.

For me clicking Ctrl/Alt Delete to bring up the task manager,Close Task manager which should bring you back into crysis..Then the mouse issue and window screen corrected itself..The smae happend with warhead untill the patch was released.

My not work for you but it's worth a try..

Re: Crysis technical question/glitch

I will try it now. I don't have any issue with the mouse.
I just spent some time with the benchmarks GPU and got some interesting results.
AT the max widescreen resolution available to me (though not the max this monitor supports...) with motion blur set to OFF (I hate it in almost all games), and all settings to the maximum, I get in windowed mode average fps about 23 and in fullscreen mode 45. While it is still playable at ~23, it is night and day with the double that.

One correction, it isn't the mountains that flicker/flash, it is the vegetation everywhere in the horizon but also few meters away from me. It is VERY annoying and makes it unplayable like that. Also the clouds seem to be affected.

Re: Crysis technical question/glitch

I disabled Catalyst A.I. and went into fullscreen. That took care of the flickering issue. Unfortunately the graphics card doesn't seem to be working at full power since from 45 average in fullscreen with AI ON (and flickering), went down to 34fps. Of course this is better than the 23 I was getting in windowed mode so I will use it, but I wish there was a way to make it work in the proper way.

Re: Crysis technical question/glitch

I am on the carrier missions now.
While I was inside the "thing" I didn't experience any issue with flickering etc. When I left it, it was there. (I decided to play with AI on so that I get better frame rate and better visuals). What I found improving the problem is when you are in the game, to go to Options and change the AA setting. Any setting. Apply. Go back in the game and the flickering has been drastically reduced. Go back in and change the AA to whatever you want and keep playing. There is still flickering, but way down than before.

One gameplay question, I got that new weapon that I have to lock on the target but I can't figure out how to do it. Do I have to wait for a trigger event to be able to? Is there some key that does it? Do I need to be a certain distance from the target?

I was talking about the one before the one you mention.
Thanks anyway.

I just finished the game.

Bad things,
requirements for not that amazing graphics (IMO as always).
About a dozen crashes with the exe stop responding.
Pistols felt worthless.
My favourite weapon was the korean assault rifle.
The helicopters could immediately see you when you were not stealthed, no matter if there was anything between you and them, including trees, water, rocks, hills. It was just silly.
I could feel a delay in my aiming, like a mouse lag or something. I got used to it, but...

Good things,
the game looks better and plays more fluidly than Arma II.
A very good single player story. I am a sci fi fan, and it felt good. Length I wouldn't mind for another few hours, but I don't feel cheated as it is. (purely on the length)
The levels inside the alien building felt very very good. Whoever designed them is worth a medal. The right amount of action and exploring, with a sense of awe and very much like the exploration in the first Alien movie.
The sound was great. I was more impressed by the sound effects than the visual ones.
Another FPS (out of a few) that using a shotgun felt good.

All in all, a good game worth its money. I would rate it 8/10.

Re: Crysis technical question/glitch

Glad you liked it. Have you played Warhead already?

Btw, I've also had a lot of trouble with windowed mode, flickering vegetation, but after a patch most problems got resolved.

My flickering issue is with full screen. It is ok in windowed mode but much slower.

I haven't played Warhead, I don't even have the game.

The game loaded in Windowed mode for me the first time. Also my mouse didn't line up with the buttons on the main menu either. It seemed that patching the game stopped that issue for me. I currently have patch 1.20 installed. I believe there is also a patch 1.21 hotfix which you can download from Fileplanet. That's where I found them last.
